"Paris je t'aime" will open A Certain Regard of the Cannes International Film Festival on the evening of May 18. The Festival starts on May 17.

Produced by Claudie Ossard and Emmanuel Benbihy, "Paris je t'aime" is a collective work of love stories directed by 20 movie-makers, each focusing on one of Paris's arrondissements (areas).

These love stories under the skies of Paris, each told in just five minutes, have been directed notably by: Alfonso Cuarón (Mexico), Gurinder Chadha (India), Gus Van Sant (USA), Isabelle Coixet (Spain), Joel & Ethan Coen (USA), Nobuhiro Suwa (Japan), Alexander Payne (USA), Oliver Schmitz (South Africa), Richard LaGravenese (USA), Tom Tykwer (Germany), Vincenzo Natali (Italy), Walter Salles (Brazil), Wes Craven (USA); and for the French, Olivier Assayas, Frédéric Auburtin, Sylvain Chomet, Gérard Depardieu and Bruno Podalydès...

Among the cast of "Paris je t'aime" we find such great names as Ben Gazzara, Bob Hoskins, Elijah Wood, Emily Mortimer, Fanny Ardant, Gaspard Ulliel, Gena Rowlands, Hippolyte Girardot, Juliette Binoche, Leonor Watling, Ludivine Sagnier, Barbet Schroeder, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Natalie Portman, Nick Nolte, Sergio Castellitto, Steve Buschemi, Willem Dafoe, Yolande Moreau...

A Certain Regard presents each year in the Festival’s official selection about 20 films. Its jury awards a prize for the best work. Last year's honour went to Romania’s "The Death of Mr. Lazarescu", directed by Cristi Puiu.

In 2006, the trophy will be awarded at the closing ceremony of A Certain Regard on Saturday, May 27, the day before the Festival ends, and the official awards, including the Golden Palm, are announced.
